Event description

From September to April, the MEM and the Laboratoire d’histoire et de patrimoine de Montréal at UQAM will be holding a one-day event each month to explore citizens’ involvement in history and heritage. Historical societies and Montréal heritage organizations will be at the museum to talk about their missions, areas of expertise and activities: the production, presentation and sharing of historical knowledge; participation in cultural and community life; and actions to protect our heritage. Come and chat with their members... and perhaps get involved!

To mark its 20th anniversary, the Société d’histoire du Plateau-Mont-Royal is celebrating the literary memory of a neighbourhood that has captured Montrealers’ imagination.

The evening is a journey through the writings and voices that have shaped the neighbourhood’s urban vibe. On the program: poetry, a slam, readings and evocations of works from the Plateau, presented by the group Et Plusieurs Autres and their guests. While history documents, literature reveals what is felt, allowing the intimate worlds of the neighbourhood to emerge and reminding us how writing shapes Montréal’s identity.

An evening where local memory and living creation meet in the spirit of the MEM — revealing the city through the words of those who write it and inhabit it.

The show will be followed by a get-together with the artists and people behind the project.

Concept and development: Yves Lamontagne and Nathalie Bandulet
Coordination: Nathalie Bandulet
Performance: Et Plusieurs Autres

About the Société d’histoire du Plateau Mont-Royal

Founded in 2006, the Société d’histoire du Plateau-Mont-Royal has a mission to share the neighbourhood’s history and heritage with the general public. Its achievements include the publication of four annual newsletters on the history of the Plateau, the creation of 24 historic plaques installed in notable neighbourhood locations, and the creation of an archives and documentation centre. The Société also organizes talks, guided tours and the annual SHP awards ceremony, and collaborates on heritage conservation projects.

About the ensemble Et Plusieurs Autres

Et Plusieurs Autres is a music and poetry ensemble that was born out of a long-standing friendship between Patrice Allard (voice, guitar and creator of warm ambiances), Richard Gauthier (voice, drums, unusual creative sensibility and former member of French B), Vincent Lacasse (bass, double bass and inventive presence) and Alain Lutfy (voice, keyboard and off-the-wall fun). The joyful quartet have given musical and spoken word performances since 2009 and are currently touring Quebec with their show Autour de l’homme approximatif.
