WOW: Searching for Montreal in Audiovisual Archives

Meet one of the MEM’s audiovisual researchers to learn about her work and discover the previously unseen images she found for our permanent exhibition.

Street scene in montreal

A lot of research goes into developing our exhibitions. And there are many “wow” moments as we delve into unexplored archives, discover rare family photos, home movies, and surprising artifacts, and meet people with inspiring stories. Join Catherine Charlebois, our chief curator, and her guests as they discuss these treasures of Montréal’s history.

For this second talk in the WOW series, Catherine has invited filmmaker, artist, and documentary researcher Caroline Martel to describe the audiovisual research she conducted for the permanent exhibition. They will reflect on the challenges of using audiovisual archives, as well as the thrill of seeing yesterday’s Montréal come alive in old recordings and photographs.
