As part of the exhibition More Than Good Refugees! 50 Years of Cambodian, Laotian and Vietnamese Presence in Montréal, the MEM is holding two round table discussions — an opportunity to better understand how the government, Quebec society and Montrealers mobilized to welcome the refugees.

2 to 3 p.m. - How Citizens Rallied Together During the Southeast Asia Refugee Crisis

The first round table will look at the role played by the media and civil society in welcoming the “boat people.”

3:30 to 4:30 p.m. - The Implementation of a Humanitarian Immigration System in Quebec

The second round table features guests who helped put in place Quebec’s humanitarian immigration system in the 1970s. Together they will explore the processes involved in selecting, receiving and integrating refugees from Southeast Asia.

Both round tables will be followed by an informal discussion and networking period. Our cash bar will be open..

General admission: first come, first seated.
