Event description
On tour since December 2023, the travelling exhibition How Well Do You Know Your Chinatown? is making its final stop at the MEM. In this exhibition, the MEM brings together content from previous projects developed with actors in Montréal’s Chinatown community, notably Dialogue avec la communauté sino-montréalaise (2021) and Lieux de mémoire du Quartier chinois. Évoquer un quartier vivant (2023), inviting visitors to learn more about this long-overlooked neighbourhood.
The exhibition offers an authentic portrayal of Chinatown and shares the memories of those who built it and made it their home. It also invites visitors to test their knowledge of the neighbourhood. The history and identity of Chinatown are revealed through its buildings and heritage, the valuable memories of its residents, and the struggles of its defenders.
This exhibition was made possible through an agreement between the Ville de Montréal and the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration, as part of the Dialogue avec le Quartier chinois initiative.
Bilingual exhibition: French and Chinese
